My Kid Left For Camp Today, and All I Got Was a Panic Attack

A) He's too little to get on that big bus without me, period.

B) You might see enthusiasm here, I see all kinds of child labor laws being violated.

C) Look! They've got him under the bus!!

D) See!! He's terrified! (call it dodging the goodbye kiss from Mom if you must, but it's straight trepidation, no matter how you look at it.)

E) Look at these helpless children! They're being led off to frolic on hillsides, slide down 'mud mountain', hike, and play games in creeks. Off to sleep in bunk bed filled cabins. Off to try to win Super Group through horrific rituals like K.P. and B.P. and winning flag football games. They are frightened, my son is begging me not to make him go... look!

oh, don't let him go...no no no....i was on a sky bike hike and one of the mother's of a 16 ear old got me to the side and saiod i had to keep an especial eye on robbie, because ....well just because i guess, well i made sure he did everthing on his own and never watch him one minute, so you be careful at what ou ask his leaders to do

lol he looks like he is going to have a great time and I hope he does. He'll still be happy to see you when he gets back either way.

Truly, it is a sad sad day indeed. When we took Gen to camp a few weeks ago, I wondered if it wasn't all sorts of wrong. Now you've confirmed my theory but dang it, if it isn't a little too late...

damn. I don't think I'd do well letting one of mine go to sleep away camp. Wow. And no camera shake. You kept a steady hand Mom! Amazing

you're way to funny. It's so true. I'd be thinking all those things. I 'll never have to worry about that though because Bubby avoids being outside in the summer like the plague.

I could see the terror in his eyes. They were saying "why the hell is my mom on this bus??!" LOL

I love your sense of humour! We should all laugh at our fears. And I know your's were real.

As for me, I get things out of my system with a daily poem, often about such situations as yours. In fact, looking at the pictures I can feel a poem coming on!

I'm an Australian grandmother, fairly new to Blogging, so looking around.

The first time the college kid went off to Girl Scout camp, I was a wreck. She had the best time. Then she went to China for two weeks... you can't just go pick them up if their homesick when they're 24 hours away.

He will have a blast, and you will survive. Promise.

I remember the first time one of my kids went to sleepaway camp--the freakout was endless! We'll, we all live and learn, I guess. My youngest is on her way back today from 10 days in Europe--everything's been smooth sailing, but we sure do miss her!

They don't do summer camp in the uk. I think I'd have liked it. I'm sure he'll be fine but hugs to you as I'd feel just the same lovely Piper.

Mud Mountain. Lawsie mercy, I think it's the same one I went to.

I will save my stories until your boy is back.
