My Girl, She's a Beater!

White Lightning - In living color

My girl has been back on the road for a week or so now, and I've become familiar with all of it's glitches again. I don't know how I forgot about them, as they are annoying as heck!

For instance, I rolled my passenger side window down...then remembered I can't do that because it won't roll back up. I don't have a drivers side, rear view mirror...this is dangerous. I forgot that the power-steering comes and goes. This morning, I managed to drive all the way across town with the emergency brake on. (yikes) White Lightning didn't seem to notice at all. Also, there's lots of loud flapping and grinding noises happening. Some when I turn, some when I go fast, lots when I shift gears and turn at the same time. Noah's door takes the Fonzarelli touch to open. And, the RMP thingy waves back and forth across the meter as frantically as hummingbird wings...it's busted.

I'm tired of driving a beater. This is the year that I am going to change that, with the grace of God. I like to joke about my truck, but I stay positive because it could always be worse. I have been in "worse", which is why I'm the least likely person to complain about anything. I'm blessed to have a vehicle, and I know it! But, frankly, this is scary to me. Me and my boys, out on the road in this...and I don't have a cell phone.

I'm going to start believing that I will be blessed with a BRAND NEW truck!! With full coverage insurance. Not because I'm a bad driver...accidents happen without my help all the time!

This is post #5 in the on-going coverage of White Lightning; the decent pass car that lost it's clout by moving to Oklahoma, and getting a reverse mullet.

Dude you are making me laugh!

I drive a 1999 white Pathfinder and I think I might start calling her White Lightning in your honor.

My windshield is cracked, but I'm getting it fixed tomorrow. I'm holding out for a newish Pacifica. This may or may not be the year to trade 'er in!

I hope you get a new truck this year! (and a cell phone)

Ok girl, you need to at least go get one of those pre-paid cell phones in case of emergency and keep it with you. end of lecture. :) My husband and I both have cracks in our windshields and there really is no point in getting them fixed until trade-in time. Every car we ever have is attracted to rocks and our windshields always gets cracked. Be safe!!!

It's rugged. Rugged is cool. Those are battle scars, not dings. My truck's passenger side mirror got shattered. I bought one of those fish eye stick on mirrors from CVS (no Jenny, they weren't doing ECBs back then!) and I stuck it on the dead mirror. Works better than the real thing! No more blind spots.

Oh gosh, I'm working toward that goal, too. My car is fifteen years old and it's age shows. I can't go over a speedbump (at idle) without bottoming out, it makes all sorts of interesting noises, and leaks who knows what (and my son's dad just put $500 into it in lieu of child support), and it's still having issues. I've got my fingers crossed for you.

Sidenote: PLEASE get a cell phone. I know people lived before they were around, but I think it's important to have something nowadays.

I drive a white '95 Ford Aerostar VAN for GAWDS sake! The rearview mirror has fallen off (I just use the ones on the sides now) & it's nicknamed "The French-fry Mobile" due to the ever present scent of old frenchfries ground into every nook & cranny by my little kids (who are now teenagers & mortified to even be SEEN in this piece of crap!) ARG!!! I too am PRAYING for a new car this year!

Piper, you are too funny! The Fonzerelli touch is what did it for me! We drive a '97 Pathfinder and it has some of the same issues.
And Olga, I'm working on creating that ever-present french fry smell in my mini-van as we speak!
ps. I second the motion for a pre-paid cell phone. :-)

Just another similarity between us, Pipes. I drive an old-beater-of-an-Explorer, but she gets us around. This is out year to change that, too. We've been saving our pennies and dollars for a new vehicle. It'll probably be a van, but -hey- we have like eleventyforty kids; we neeeeeeeeeeeed a van. (Or a short bus?)

Here's to old beater girls. We rock with our c...... Oh wait, wrong saying!

Ewww a new truck sounds very nice (I'm missing my side mirror on the passenger side. Just have to find some glue that will hold it)

White Lightening still puts my '96 champagne Mercury Sable wagon to shame... she's got personality.

My oldsie has lost both side mirrors, one of them twice (vandalism, mailbox that was way too close to the street so totally not my fault ;), and snow brush). Being the handy chick that I am and getting tired of people going on and on about how I didn't have a mirror after the vandalism incident I drove over to the local part store and low and behold they had replacement mirror kits and they were pretty cheap. Easy to put on too, just two pieces of double sided foam tape on the plastic and the mirror sticks right on =). Good luck!
